Words cannot express how truly honored I feel to be able to share my story with you. Your courage and respect for your child are to be admired. I am committed to providing a child a home filled with warm hugs, loads of laughter and unconditional love. I thank you for taking the time to get to know me. Please know I am thinking of you and wishing you all the peace and strength as you consider the complex decisions that lay ahead.

Wishes, Hopes and Dreams

I remember getting a Dr. Seuss book for my sixth birthday. It was an All About Me book where I was to fill in my favorites, wishes, hopes and dreams. There was a double-page spread with all kinds of occupations and a heading that read, “This is what I want to be when I grow up”. On the line I wrote three things: “acbat, techr, mommy”. Two things can be crossed off that very short list: One, I did gymnastics as a young child (acbat), and two, I have been teaching for 16 years (techr). The one dream I have not yet fulfilled is to become someone’s Mommy.

Working with a special student

I have always known that I wanted to have my life surrounded by children; whether it be as an aunt, a teacher, a friend, or as a mom. I embrace the fact that I have surrounded myself with a wonderfully supportive circle of family and friends. I know that the tasks I now consider ordinary will take on a whole new meaning. But with these changes come wonderful experiences that I have never had. I welcome them. I desire them. I eagerly anticipate them. And my life will be complete as a result of all of them.

Small Close-Knit Family

I come from a small close-knit family who is eagerly awaiting a new addition. My nephews and niece are excited to have a little cousin to play and laugh with. My parents are active retirees who live close by. Grandma and Grandpa visits will be a regular event as my mom has already set aside Sundays as “Family Dinner Night”. I wish I could describe the look on her face when she talks about the possibility of her only daughter becoming a mom. I know these dinners will become a cherished tradition for all of us.

Special Relationship

One thing that is unique to my situation is the closeness I have developed with another family. Over the past 16 years, Carly, Jeff and Zack, their parents, Bill and Chris (and most recently their new puppy) have become like family. As infants I cared for all three at a corporate child care center where I worked. Now as teenagers I can’t wait to watch the boys’ baseball games or talk to Carly about her college possibilities. Bill and Chris have supported me in so many ways. It is comforting to know that any question or concern I have can be quickly answered as they live less than three miles away. In the unlikely event something should happen to me, Chris and Bill have agreed to help me with my child. Being an important part of their extended family, Chris’ parents, siblings and nieces and nephews are eagerly awaiting a new infant to love and share in these wonderful family traditions of which I have been so blessed to be a part.

My Home

I live in a suburban area of New Jersey that is within an hours drive to New York City or Philadelphia. My home is a two-story condominium with lots of space for a growing child. My neighborhood is a friendly community of diverse cultures and lots of children. The historical town I live in boasts a Blue-Ribbon school district and a community park where the town gathers for annual Fourth of July fireworks and concerts. There is also a mountain preserve for hiking and biking nearby. My faith is very important to me and I know my religious community can’t wait to accept a new person into the congregation.

Avid Sports Fan

I am an avid sports fan and enjoy catching a Yankees, NJ Devils, or NY Giants game. Growing up with an older brother and a dad who coached, I was dragged along to all of his baseball and football games and fell in love with both. I also enjoy writing and reading, both of which provide me a sense of peace and calmness. Over the years, I have built quite a library of children’s books. Reading at night was a family tradition that I plan on continuing with my own child.

Warm Memories

Living in a coastal state has been very gratifying to me as I frequently visit friends and family who either live or own homes at the Jersey Shore. Growing up with summers at the beach building sand castles or riding roller coasters on the boardwalk are warm memories for me. I also consider myself an amateur photographer who enjoys taking nature scenes and black and white portraits. All of these hobbies are something that I value very deeply and can’t wait to share them with a child so that he/she can grow up to become a well rounded adult.

I Feel Honored

I thank you for allowing me to share my story. I feel so honored to have this opportunity for you to get to know me and I want you to know how much I admire your courage. I truly believe that the respect and love you have for your child is confirmed in your thoughts of adoption. If you choose to place your child with me, I promise to provide him/her with all the smiles, hugs, laughter, security and love he/she needs to become a wonderful person. A quote lifted from a book by Cynthia Copeland Lewis states, “Look at the footprints you’ve made.” What ever decision you make, please know that you will be this child’s footprints and, unlike the ones made in sand, these will never get washed away.

Warmest wishes,

Lisa
