About Friends in Adoption
Who We Are
Friends in Adoption (FIA) is a non-profit, pro-choice, licensed newborn/infant adoption agency with a focus on helping people make informed decisions concerning adoption. FIA is committed to open adoption, inclusiveness, and providing lifelong support to all members of the adoption triad.
Friends in Adoption employs a network of dedicated, experienced and caring adoption professionals. Although our administrative offices are located in Vermont and New York, we are able to provide free and confidential adoption services for pregnant women/couples anywhere in the United States.
Our team members are sensitive and skillful in all areas concerning adoption. They are here to listen and assist. They feel a personal connection to each and every adoption.
We recognize that adoption is a life-long process based on trust, honesty and mutual responsibility, and we promote open adoption and provide lifelong support to each member in the adoption triad — placing each child at the center of what we do. We are Friends in Adoption.

Today and Into the Future
Friends in Adoption is a licensed, not-for-profit infant/newborn adoption agency with offices in New York and Vermont. FIA works with individuals throughout the United States and is a full-service agency built on the core values of empowerment, inclusiveness, openness, and lifelong support.
Friends in Adoption is an adoption educator working with a wide network of attorneys, counselors, clinics and hospitals, providing training, outreach, and education. Friends in Adoption believes it is of the utmost importance to listen to and hear the important voices of the adoption triad.
Friends in Adoption’s Executive Director is Tara Saltis, who has been part of FIA’s leadership team since 2004. She works closely with the Friends In Adoption team to ensure that every person in the adoption triad’s needs are met. Tara is constantly evaluating internal processes to make sure that adoptive parents are supported every step of the way and that their costs are kept affordable. She also oversees the systems that ensure that birth parents have the care, guidance, and empowerment they deserve. In addition to carrying the FIA torch and providing ongoing post-adoption support, Tara is especially passionate about raising adoption awareness and is creating educational opportunities to that end, on an ongoing basis.
Thousands of families have been brought together by Friends in Adoption, and thousands more individuals and families have benefitted from FIA’s guidance and resources regardless of ultimately choosing adoption or another path.
Friends in Adoption is honored to be a positive force in so many adoption journeys. FIA continues to further its mission of providing compassionate adoption services, centered on the well-being of the child and tailored to the unique needs of all involved in the adoption process.
