Q: What if we are working with an expectant mother and the baby is born with medical problems?
A: It is important to FIA that each child is adopted by parents who will embrace the baby and the child's situation completely. We discuss this possibility ahead of time with everyone involved in the adoption planning. Just as placing a baby with an adoptive family is a birth mother's voluntary decision, we explain that there is no obligation on the part of the adopting family to adopt a baby unless they are 100% committed to parenting the child. If a family is not able to adopt and parent a child born with medical issues, FIA would continue to work with the birth family to find an appropriate adoptive family for the baby. Any money spent towards a particular adoption that an adopting family declines due to unanticipated medical issues is NOT refundable. However, the FIA agency fee is applicable until the family has successfully adopted. FIA continues to work with you until this happens.
