Adventurous Couple in Vermont Longing to Start a Family Through Adoption!
Hello! Greetings from Vermont. We are so pleased that you chose to take some time with our adoption profile! We can only imagine the courage it takes to consider adoption and we are deeply honored that you may be considering us as adoptive parents.
We met in graduate school when Doug ran by Elizabeth’s house during a marathon and he caught her eye. Later we found that we both loved teaching, books, and exploring the mountains together on skis or on foot. We’ve been married for twelve years and feel so lucky to be best friends, very in love, and each other’s favorite ski buddy. We’ve had amazing adventures together all over the world; now we are so excited for the next adventure of becoming parents. The child we adopt will be welcomed into a big extended network of love, lots of kids, and lots of fun.
We are both trained as teachers and have taught children of all ages, from youngsters to college students. Because of our work as educators, we understand childhood development and can provide not only a loving home, but the background knowledge to help our child thrive.
In describing Elizabeth, Doug said that she finds “great joy in being an aunt to her nieces and nephews and the best days are those at the Michigan lake cottage with the entire family, swimming, boating, and playing together.” Doug also said that Elizabeth loves learning. “She earned a PhD in behavioral science and sustainable energy because she is concerned about climate change,” Doug said. Elizabeth also enjoys paddle boarding, swimming in lakes, snow, and time in the mountains.
Elizabeth said that Doug is known for his “kindness and patience; his nieces and nephews adore him.” Doug has combined his love of the outdoors with his love of rowing, and now works as the Director of Outdoor Programs at a small college in Vermont. “He feels lucky to work with students every day sharing his passions on a beautiful college campus,” Elizabeth said. He also has a sailboat that he sails on Lake Champlain.
We live in Vermont. There are endless events, parades, musical performances, and celebrations here especially for families and children. We live close to ski hills and very close to Shelburne Farms, a magical, family friendly place where children can visit to milk a cow, pet a sheep, and help put the chickens in the coop. We look forward to sharing all of Vermont wonders with the child we adopt!
We are surrounded by a big, loving network of close family and friends. Everyone is excited to welcome another cousin and have been cheering us on as we work towards bringing a child into our home.
We fill our lives with the people we love and the things we love to do together like skiing, hiking, sailing, and traveling. We are lucky to be aunt and uncle to a crew of young children who will be great playmates and cousins for our little one. We are very close to our sisters and brothers and we all gather several times each year for major holidays.
We often meet our friends and their children for skiing, swimming, or to visit a maple sugaring operation in the spring to taste some syrup! Most of our friends are parents to young children. They enjoy spending their weekends outside playing, tromping around at a farm, or on a hiking trail.
Adopting a baby is something we have wanted for a long time. We’re so grateful that you chose to look through our adoption profile. Should you decide on adoption and choose us to parent your baby, we can already promise you that we will create a loving, supportive, and fun family for the child we adopt.
