Family is important to both of us.
Emmy has a big family. They live mostly close to us in Amsterdam, NY, and Mike has a smaller family who live farther away. But both sides are part of our lives and involved in raising our kids.
Emmy’s parents are frequent visitors to our house, and we all invade their house as much as they will have us 🙂 And the many Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins on Emmy’s side are local and make it a point to celebrate both the big and small holidays together (with lots of food!)
Mike’s parents spend half their time in Portsmouth, NH, where Mike grew up, and half the time in Cape Cod, MA, near the ocean, where we like to get together for family beach time.
Nancy and Bruce (Emmy’s Mom and Dad) are loving grandparents and make our dreams their own. They are babysitters, confidants, and extra hands when our plumbing springs a leak. They are everything to us and heroes for Jo and Cedar.
Emmy’s Brother Justin lives in Schenectady, NY. We see him on weekends at Emmy’s parents, where he is tinkering around with an antique car (with Cedar’s supervision) or planting apple trees in the orchard. He shares his love of books with Cedar and Jo, always finding unique books for them to read.
Sue and Neal (Mike’s Mom and Dad) love when we can all get together to share a meal and conversation around the table.
Mike’s brother Josh and his wife Tonya live on Martha’s Vineyard, where Tonya is from, and are raising their two girls, Isla and Ollie, who are close in age to Cedar and Jo. We share clothes, ideas, and calls with them as much as possible, and when we are all under the same roof, it is like no time has passed.
Mike also has a sister Emily who is “Auntie Em” and lives in Boston, MA. She is silly and loving and will undoubtedly always be the cool Aunt.
No one is more than a few hours away, and always willing to pick up a FaceTime call to chat about our day.
