Our Family
We are both lucky to come from large, loving families. They are so excited and supportive of our plan to adopt a child, and are ready to welcome them with open arms and hearts.
Most of John’s family lives in Washington DC, and we love visiting because each visit is non-stop family! Aunts, uncles, cousins, mom, sister, and grandma all live in the area. John’s sister and her husband (and their dog!) live just outside of Washington so they get to see family all the time. John’s mother and grandmother even live in the same apartment building, making family gatherings convenient and frequent. Greg also has a goddaughter who lives in the DC area, adding another special connection for our visits. We travel to DC all the time, including every Thanksgiving. This summer we had a family reunion, and relatives came from all over the country! We look forward to sharing these family connections with a child someday.
Greg’s family lives in the Albany area, where he was born and raised. His mom and dad each remarried when he was young, which expanded his family to include loving step-parents and siblings. Greg has a large family of parents, siblings, nieces, nephews and cousins who live in the area, creating a vibrant family dynamic. We visit often, including every Christmas. And we try to catch as many of our nephew’s basketball and soccer games as we can!
Growing up, Greg often babysat for neighbors, and helped his mother, who worked as a full-time nanny. This experience not only deepened Greg’s love for children, but also began to prepare him for parenthood. We plan to move back to Albany to raise our family, and the idea of our future child growing up amidst this loving network of relatives (including eight cousins … so far!) fills us with joy.
Our childhoods were filled with many family traditions and activities. John spent many summers at family reunions getting to know his dozens of second and third cousins. At home, John and his family would do arts and crafts, celebrate holidays together, and he and his sister would attend each other’s sporting events — John was quite the swimmer. So much of his childhood was centered around his family, and he’s looking forward to creating similar memories with a child that we adopt.
As a kid, Greg spent a lot of time with his extended family and friends, enjoying backyard cookouts and picnics that brought everyone together. Playing sports and cheering for the Yankees, Giants and Knicks with his brother added excitement to his childhood. These experiences have shaped his desire to create a loving and supportive environment for the child we adopt.
We are grateful for the love and support that our families have provided to us, and we can’t wait to share this with our child.
