Our Little Home in Our Little Town
In 2025, we left the Virginia suburbs of Washington, D.C., and moved to the Adirondacks in upstate New York. We wanted to be closer to McKenzie’s grandparents and grow our family in a small, tight-knit community that would give the child we hope to adopt the experience of knowing their neighbors and being known by them.
Our home, next door to McKenzie’s grandparents, is on a quiet road on the banks of the Hudson River, with a large yard filled with wild thyme and surrounded by forest as far as the eye can see. McKenzie’s family has lived on this street for generations. In fact, most of the houses on our street are occupied by relatives! Our bird feeders welcome dozens of birds each day, and we are endlessly delighted by the wildlife that stops by.
We live just outside of town, and though we have only lived here since 2025, we already feel at home. We jumped right into getting involved in committees, associations, groups, volunteer opportunities, and art classes. While our town is small, it is full of welcoming, kind, talented people who are committed to volunteering and community life.
The best part of our home’s location isn’t the breathtaking views — though we do enjoy those! — but the fact that we are just yards away from McKenzie’s grandparents. We love spending time with them and sharing life with them, and we can’t wait to raise the child we hope to adopt near them!
Life Around Us
North Creek may be a small Adirondack town, but it is full of life during every season. We can head into town for a library program, art class, farmers market, concert, or community event, then be at the North Creek Ski Bowl or Gore Mountain within minutes. Winter brings skiing, sledding, ice skating, and snowshoeing, while the warmer months bring hiking, biking, kayaking, fishing, rail biking, and days spent near the river. Local galleries, glassblowing studios, the Depot Museum, and the nearby garnet mines give us even more ways to learn and explore close to home.
Beyond North Creek, Warren County offers even more opportunities for family outings, including beaches, boat rides, parks, museums, caves, festivals, and the many activities surrounding Lake George. We picture the child we hope to adopt growing up with familiar faces, four very different seasons, and plenty of opportunities to be curious, active, creative, and connected to the community.
