We each have very large and close-knit families. And we spend a bunch of time together. Everyone is VERY excited for us to adopt a baby and committed to supporting our parenting success!
Nate’s Family: Nate is one of four siblings and his parents live nearby. His mom, Monica, is one of the most compassionate people we know. She’s also retiring this year to be a full-time grandma and help with childcare! His dad is Tim, a super supporter, and as he’s a construction worker, has taught Nate how to be handy around the house. They live 10 minutes away and the whole family gathers at Nate’s parents for all the events (big and small) including Christmas Day and Dinner, Easter Egg Party, Birthdays, and Sunday brunch. Nate’s older sister Kelly (and her wife), live also 10 minutes away and they are having a baby this year! Nate’s two brothers, Nick and Tim, have been Nate’s best friends for his whole life and are going to be the best uncles. Kristina, Nate’s sister-in-law, is the sweetest, and she’s excited to be an awesome Aunt and female role model. Each year everyone vacations together in the Adirondacks and Finger Lakes. Nate’s also part of a huge extended family (his mom was one of four, and dad one of six) with over 20 cousins in the Rochester area. He still sees his cousins (and their kids) at least monthly. Two of Nate’s cousins, Caitlin and Chris, were both adopted from India when they were young. Caitlin is the same age as Nate so they grew up super close going to their grandparents’ pool as much as they could during the summers and now as adults, they see each other often at extended family events. Their close relationship reminds Nate how amazing and special adoption is!
Mike’s Family: Mike’s family is also very close. His mom, Pam, lives minutes away in the same house that he grew up in and is super fun-loving and energetic. She is retiring this year so she can help out with babysitting and is the self-described fun grandma! Mike’s dad, Tony, passed away a few years ago from kidney disease, but he left many memories and inspired Mike to want to be a father one day. His parents were married for 41 years. Mike’s sister, Bridget, lives about 15 minutes away in Penfield, NY with her husband Brian. They are both teachers and have two kids. Mike’s niece, Danielle, is very active in theater, singing, and shopping and his nephew, Nick, is into track and weight-lifting. We (Nate and Mike) are at Danielle’s many plays and musicals each year and Nick’s track meets. One of Mike’s cousins, LiLynne, was adopted from South Korea and lives close by. Mike often saw her and the rest of the family during the holidays, at Saranac Lake, and at family reunions. Mike has asked her about her adoption experience and her perspective has been helpful to understand the gift of adoption. We love playing card games and lawn games with Mike’s family and watching the latest traveling Broadway Shows together. Each year, everyone celebrates Pride with us by marching in the parades and cheering big for our local baseball team, The Rochester Red Wings.
