Meet Stacey

“Stacey spent her childhood in Morgantown, WV, as the middle child with both an older and younger brother. We visited her neighborhood several times before her parents moved away from West Virginia. Her childhood home had a garden and a large yard, which extended into a large wood lot where, she told me, her brothers and friends would explore, ride bikes, and climb trees. Her first job was a paper-route in her neighborhood in her early teens.
Looking through photos it is very clear that Stacey was always a tomboy and loved sports and being outside. Growing up in Morgantown, she was able to take advantage of numerous opportunities to engage in athletics, especially baseball and soccer, and to enjoy the outdoors. She was the catcher in little league, a goalie in soccer, and even tried a very short stint in ice hockey. Her family spent a lot of time camping and canoeing in the area, and they even traveled to the Midwest and Canada for extended canoe-camping trips. It was a great way to grow up and something that we have done and continue to do with our children.
Her brothers were very active in music and foreign languages. Both of them are fluent in Chinese and her older brother lived in China for several years. After high school, both of her brothers joined the military and each have used their language skills in their service. Her older brother gravitated to drawing and music, and her younger brother to computers. Both of them are adept at languages and are exceptionally creative.
In high school, Stacey got a job at Subway (which we may bring up now and again when come upon one) and got her first car, a Volkswagen Beetle. The car was older than her but she still loves the sound that a 70’s Beetle makes as it passes by. This early job gave her the ability to earn spending money through high school and into her first year of college.
In high school, she met some of her best and longest term friends and they still get together to watch all our children play together. Though the dynamics have changed, her friendships have endured through the years.
After graduating high school, Stacey attended West Virginia Wesleyan College. It was close to her home but far enough away to be independent. She graduated from college with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Philosophy and, from college, she applied to Vermont Law School. She was excited to see cars in the parking lot of the school in South Royalton, Vermont, with kayaks and canoes on top. The school is next to the White River in a tiny town and is quite idyllic. She graduated from Vermont Law with a Juris Doctor and began her law career in the same town with one her best friends.
Just a few years ago, Stacey started her own firm in Castleton, Vermont and works just down the road from my parents’ home. She brings our dog to work so that she has an excuse to get outside throughout the day. Having her own firm is a lot of work but she gets a lot of family support and it allows her the flexibility needed for a family.
I am amazed by Stacey’s commitment and skillfulness in helping others, through her work in her law career and in our family. Her optimistic view and determination to make things right, in times of strife, for her clients and for our friends and family, is inspiring.”
