Get Acquainted Meeting Agenda
What to Expect
Friends in Adoption (FIA) has developed a two-day Get Acquainted Workshop (GAW) that will give you a complete and effective overview of the FIA‘s adoption process. Pre-registered participants arrive by 5 pm to learn about FIA‘s history, meet the staff and one another, and begin to discuss that the focus of each adoption is on the child while enjoying dinner together.
A full-day workshop starts at 9 a.m. the next day. FIA staff members review the steps in joining FIA, how the home study process works, and how FIA works with adoptive family profiles. The workshop includes segments on what to expect while active and waiting, what to expect when an expectant mother or couple wishes to work with you, and an outline of the fees associated for adoption services. The GAW includes actual stories shared by adoptive parents and by birth parents. Staff will discuss the topic of “visible” adoption, including transracial adoption, and will discuss post-adoption contact and support.
The GAW is an exciting 2-day event that includes wine-and-cheese, dinner, breakfast, and lunch — an opportunity for fellowship from those considering adopting with FIA. It is the first step for prospective adoptive parents who are considering working with Friends in Adoption.
